Five Pillars Of ISLAM

Shahada

The belief that "There is no God but ALLAH, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God" is central to Islam. This phrase, written in Arabic, is often prominently featured in architecture and a range of objects, including the Qur'an, Islam's holy book of divine revelations. One becomes a Muslim by reciting this phrase with conviction.

Salat

Muslims pray towards Mecca five times a day, reciting the Qur'an. Prayer can be done alone or in mosques led by an imam. Men gather for Friday noon prayer; women are welcome but not obligated. Sermons and discussions follow.

Zakat

In accordance with Islamic law, Muslims donate a fixed portion of their income to community members in need. Many rulers and wealthy Muslims build mosques, drinking fountains, hospitals, schools, and other institutions both as a religious duty and to secure the blessings associated with charity.

Fasting

During the daylight hours of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, all healthy adult Muslims are required to abstain from food and drink. Through this temporary deprivation, they renew their awareness of and gratitude for everything God has provided in their lives—including the Qur'an, which was first revealed during this month.

Hajj

Every able Muslim must visit Mecca, Saudi Arabia, at least once. The Ka'ba, a central structure in the Haram Mosque, is believed to be built by Abraham for God. Muslims pray facing it. Believers worldwide gather at the Ka'ba during specific days of the Islamic calendar since Muhammad's time.

What is Modern Muslims ?

“Modern Muslims” is a platform where we attempt to bring in people to share opinions, thoughts, practical experiences and way of life without being judgmental or biased. We would like to make it absolutely clear, that we are not and we will not modernize “Islam”. Muslim and Islam are two things. “Islam” is a religion, followed by people called “Muslims”. If this is absolutely clear, then let’s move forward.

Let me tell you what Modern Muslims is NOT. Modern Muslims thoughts is not trying to make or suggest any changes in Islam. We are not trying to convert/revert anyone. We are not trying to prophesies Islam here, nor trying to answer any religious questions simply because we are not any “mufti” (a Muslim legal expert who is empowered to give rulings on religious matters) or any other kind of religious authority to answer any religious question.
The owners of this platform, that is myself and my family are born in Muslim family and are followers of Islam. We are practicing Muslims, we believe and follow the teachings of Islam and take pride in being a Muslim.

“Modern Muslims” – the title of our thoughts has two words, “Modern” and “Muslims”

In the larger scheme of things if you see all religion is ancient and goes way back in centuries and every follower of their religion in todays world follows its teachings and practices without any changes in today’s times. Let me explain you, for instance Islam is centuries old religion and followers of Islam back in the days slept on handmade mats and moved on camels and horses but the teachings of Islam are still practiced the way it was taught to us till date, however we no longer sleep on handmade mats and do not use animals as personal transportation these days right ?. We are in modern times and use all the luxuries and amenities of modern day while practicing our faith exactly the same way it was taught to us. The Azaan (call for prayers) and Salah (Salah is the word used for Islamic prayer. Most often the word Salah is used to describe the obligatory 5 daily prayers of the Muslims) hasn’t changed ever since and nor are we going to change it ever. Modern Muslims thoughts talks about way of life and perspective of some like minded Muslims like us who like to strike a balance in their way of life by keeping their faith intact
